I put a couple of tiny drops of ' Krazy Glue' type glue (actually a Loctite version of Cyanoacrylate) on the outer edge of the plugs and pushed them into the holes. I cleaned up the edges of the holes where there were some little plastic burrs left from the drill. They were $1.19 each (see attached picture). I found 1/4' 'chrome' metal plugs at our local Ace Hardware (which has two aisles of drawers containing loose hardware of all sorts). This left two 1/4' holes in the grille (see attached picture). I started with a 1/8' drill bit, but it did not do the trick, so I moved up to a 1/4' bit which took the rivets out easily.

(It left ugly too, so I was left to my own devices to fix it).įortunately, the metal rivets holding the plate holder were only in the 'chrome' grill and not on the painted nose part of the car. I asked the dealer to remove it, but they said it would leave damage and declined. I got my '17 Volt in MD and the front license holder is not needed here in PA.

I thought I would share what I did in case it is helpful to anyone else. I used the information to get rid of the front plate holder on my Volt.
